07h00 – We were awoken this morning by a strange silence and then within a few minutes the wind started to blow, we knew the signs, it was a quick dash around the house closing all doors and fastening windows especially the Velux roof lights.   Within minutes the wind was really blowing.   I had concerns for my new garage’s roof which had not yet been finished but I was not going to venture outside, I could not have done anything anyhow.  I took a short movie clip using the Nikon 5200 of the trees waving about.   Then the lightning started, not as violent as I had expected.   The internet was down and the mains electricity was flickering so I decided to shut down the computers.  There was no satellite reception so the dish must have been blown off target or the cloud was too thick.

Time for a coffee and feed the cats, three of whom were already hovering around my ankles, they do not like the wind.   The fourth cat Jeton soon appeared, soaked to the skin, at the sound of the cat bell.

08h10 – coffee in hand and cats satisfied the storm had now abated and the computers were turned back on.   Internet OK but still no satellite reception, that’ll have to wait, I not going out there yet it is still eerily dark and raining.  Mind you we could do with the rain it’s been dry except for the occasional storm for weeks, even months a very dry year to date.

Plans for the day – re-position satellite dish, more work on garage roof and prepare Orange bedroom for guests due at the end of July.

13h00 – Pouring down with rain again MOST WELCOME so back in the office.  Did some work on the garage roof attaching the experimental 25mm black water tube to the tile battens.  This will be used for a water pre-heat system.    I fixed the satellite system, my light ladder had been thrown against the dish by the wind, just needed a slight twist.

20h00 – Finished one complete row of corrugated roofing on garage roof.  Jeton turned up for dinner without the bell.

The Tour de France came though our village, Saint-Privé (89) today but it’s overcast and raining.  Went to the village at about 10h30 having already selected a good spot to get photos of the race with the village sign in the background.  This was achieved, the race came through just after 13h00.  Got shots of the race leaders and a few minutes later some great pics of the man who would be later that day be the stage winner – Mark Cavendish from the Isle of Man.  Just as well I had made a placard the night before saying ‘C’mon Cav’ featuring an Isle of Man Treskelion.

Camera used was a Nikon D70 digital SLR with a Tamron 28-300mm zoom, set at about 135mm.
